Carbohydrates

When you’re living with Diabetes, counting carbohydrates is an important part of achieving glucose control. We know this can be a challenge sometimes, so we’ve done the counting for you. Using the Diabetic Exchange, we’ve made our meals and snacks carbohydrate controlled with no more than 45g or less of net carbs per meal, and 15g or less of net carbs per snack.

Why controlling carbohydrates is important?

• Glycemic Index

The Glycemic Index (or GI) of foods measures how fast and how intensely a carbohydrate affects blood sugars. The lower the GI, the less impact on blood sugars. So, the carbohydrates we’ve used in our meals are low-moderate GI-focused: whole grains, legumes, fruits and vegetables are the primary carbohydrate sources in every meal, snack and soup to ensure glycemic balance.

How the Glycemic Index Works

• Soluble Fiber

Eating a high fiber diet can have great health benefits for those with Diabetes: It slows carbohydrate digestion, keeps you fuller longer so you eat less, and has the ability to bind to glucose and cholesterol before it is absorbed into the body. We’ve paid special attention to this important nutrient by using foods naturally high in fiber – vegetables, beans, flax, whole grains and more.

While controlling the amount of carbohydrates you eat is important, you can achieve even greater blood sugar control when you eat a variety of nutrients at every meal and snack: protein, healthy fats, fiber, vitamins and minerals are all key players, too. leViv’s meals are balanced nutrition with significant sources of all the nutrients your body needs to improve glycemic balance.
